In continuation to our last blog on VPC connections, this blog explains the advanced service i.e AWS Transit Gateway which can replace all other individual services used for resource communication within or between your Cloud and On-Prem resources.

AWS Transit Gateway connects VPCs and on-premises networks through a central hub. This simplifies your network and puts an end to complex peering relationships. It acts as a cloud router - each new connection is only made once.

What it looks like if you are using old connection methods.

As and when your environment gets larger the mutual connection gets complicated if you still rely on VPC peering, VPN connection, and Direct connect. AWS Transit Gateway (AWS TGW) eliminates this complexity and acts as a central hub for all-way communication.

Transit Gateway concepts -

  1. Attachment - It is the connection from your VPC or VPN to the TGW.
  2. Association - It is the route table used to route traffic coming from an attachment.
  3. Route propagation - Propagations is the one that guides traffic to reach the correct route. Routes are auto-populated from the propagation.

AWS Transit Gateway Network Manager - Network Manager is a feature of AWS Transit Gateway. It centralizes the management and monitoring of network resources and connections to remote branch locations.

The AWS Transit Gateway Network Manager dashboard shows your AWS Transit Gateways across all AWS Regions and on-premises. It offers a logical view and a geographic view of your network resources and connections, along with connection status.

Benefits of using AWS Transit Gateway - Easier connectivity, Better visibility and control, Improved security, and Flexible multicast.

AWS TGW use cases - Deliver applications around the world, Rapidly move to the global scale, Smoothly respond to spikes in demand and Host multicast applications in the cloud.
